April is Deaf History Month! 📚 This month, we celebrate the powerful legacy of the Deaf community, starting with our own story at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB). 🏫 Founded in 1870, WVSDB has been educating and empowering Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for over 150 years. What started in a small brick building in Romney, WV, has grown into a campus dedicated to innovation, accessibility, and student success. WVSDB continues to be a place where Deaf history is made every day. 🤩 #DeafHistoryMonth #WVSDB #DeafEducation

Bad News Bears Rocketry Team Takes Flight! 🚀 April Fool’s Day was no joke for our rocketry team! Our first rocket launched successfully, but one parachute failed, sending it plummeting 500 feet. Miraculously, the eggs survived, though two fins broke off. Despite best efforts, the team couldn’t fully repair it. Enter the backup rocket; launch #2 was a success! 🤩 We completed two qualifying flights, with our best reaching 768 feet in 39.71 seconds; both chutes deployed, and the eggs survived! 🥚 Now, we wait to see if our scores earn us a spot at Nationals in Washington, D.C! 🤞 #Rocketry #WVSDB #STEM

Our March Discovery P.O.I.N.T. was a SUCCESS! 🌟 This month, our students focused on becoming career-ready with Bear Wear for Success! 👔 They learned how to dress for interviews and were fitted for professional attire in preparation for a mock interview in April with a local business in Romney. For our Deaf, Hard of Hearing (DHH), and Visually Impaired (VI) students, developing these career-readiness skills is essential for building confidence, independence, and self-advocacy in the workplace. 💼 By practicing interview techniques and workplace expectations, they are gaining the tools they need to succeed beyond graduation! 🎓 Interested in joining us for our April Discovery P.O.I.N.T.? ➡️For Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH), please contact Mrs. Nora Stevenson: nora.stevenson@k12.wv.us ➡️For Visually Impaired (VI), please contact Ms. Wendy Bailey: wbailey@k12.wv.us #CareerReady #WVSDB #FutureLeaders
