Through engaging stories, we focused on enhancing literacy while broadening their global knowledge. 🌍 A highlight of the camp was our fun field trip to Urban Bounce, where students got to enjoy some active playtime. Meet the WVSDB Staff! 🐻 Dr. Christine Lewis - Director of Student Life 🌟 With 20 years at WVSDB, she leads as the Director of Student Life, overseeing all aspects of residential programming. Dr. Lewis ensures students are supported academically and learn independent living skills through the state-approved expanded core curriculum. She designs activities to enhance fitness, social, emotional, and personal care skills, fostering independence and career-building skills. 🤩 Dr. Lewis bridges students' families and the school, making WVSDB a true home for residents. 🏠 She holds a BS in Psychology, an M.Ed. in School Guidance & Counseling, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. 🎓 Her goal is to improve students' quality of life and preserve their dignity. Meet the WVSDB Staff! 🐻 Dean of Students/Principal - Melanie Hesse! We are excited to introduce our dedicated Dean of Students. She has been with WVSDB for over 20 years, holding various key positions. Starting in 2003 at WVSDB Deaf Elementary, she became Director of Special Education in 2016, Director of Outreach in 2019, and now serves as Dean of Students. 📚 With a Bachelor's in Education from Fairmont State College, a Master's in Special Education from Marshall University, and certifications in DHH and VI. 🤟 Fluent in ASL and proficient in Braille, our Dean brings unmatched expertise and passion to our school.
