The Career Academy for Postgraduates (CAP) program at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB) is designed to empower young adults with vision or hearing loss as they transition into productive employment, independent living, and postsecondary success.

Students in CAP can choose the pathway that best fits their goals:

Mrs. JoAnna Gilbert has been named a 2027 West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and Chamber Foundation School Service Personnel of the Year Finalist, one of the highest recognitions for school service personnel in West Virginia! 🎉

Since joining WVSDB in 2020, JoAnna has brought nearly 30 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities. Her passion for helping students develop skills, confidence, and independence shines through in everything she does. 🌟

JoAnna earned her Autism Mentor Certification through Marshall University and continues to expand her expertise by studying Braille and learning American Sign Language (ASL) to better support the unique needs of her Deaf, Blind, and Autistic students.
