Launching into Discovery for World Space Week! 🌎

In Ms. Biddle's and Ms. Cassie's science classes, students set out to answer one big question: Does the shape of a rocket's fins affect how far it flies? 🤔

To find out, students tested different fin shapes, launched stomp rockets, and used bar graphs to analyze their results. Along the way, they put their scientific thinking skills into action through hands-on experimentation and discovery!

One small stomp, one giant leap for learning! 🚀

Our Blind/Low Vision (VI) students packed their Space Camp experience with new adventures, exciting challenges, teamwork, laughter, and plenty of moments they won’t soon forget.

Experiences like these are what it’s all about, giving our students opportunities to explore, grow, challenge themselves, and discover just how much is possible.

From right here in West Virginia to truly out-of-this-world adventures, we want our students to know that possibilities are everywhere. 🌎

WVSDB Fall Dinner Show menu. Putting Skills to Work! 🦯

Recently, some of our Blind/Low Vision (VI) students took their learning beyond campus and into the community during a trip to Winchester, Virginia, with our Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Instructor, Mrs. Moreland.

Navigating a community provides something a classroom alone can't replicate: changing environments, unfamiliar routes, real decisions, and opportunities to problem-solve in the moment. 🗺️

That's why O&M is such an important part of the specialized education WVSDB offers. We're helping students develop skills they can carry with them into adulthood, at home, at work, in college, and throughout their communities.

This is O&M in action. This is WVSDB. 🐻

Our Blind/Low Vision (VI) students recently had an out-of-this-world experience at Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCIVIS)! 🌎

SCIVIS gives students who are Blind or have Low Vision the opportunity to experience the excitement, challenge, and discovery of Space Camp in an accessible environment.

For our students, that meant stepping into new experiences, taking on challenges, working together, and discovering just how much is possible. ✨

Blue Looks Good on WVSDB! 💙

Recently, WVSDB staff wore blue to recognize Deaf Awareness Month and celebrate the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, staff, families, and community who are such an important part of WVSDB.

More than a color, it was a simple way to show our support, celebrate Deaf culture and community, and recognize the incredible DHH students, staff, families, and individuals who make a difference every day. 🤩

At WVSDB, Deaf awareness is more than something we recognize in September. It’s part of who we are every day. 🤟

Hands Up, West Virginia! flyer promoting WVSDB’s free online American Sign Language learning series through Public School Partnerships. The program is open to families, educators, school staff, service providers, students, community members, and anyone interested in ASL. Season 3 classes are September 15, October 20, November 17, and December 15. Season 4 classes are February 16, March 16, April 20, and May 18.
