Last evening the WVSDB Boy Scout Troop #1870 visited a local farm to learn about egg production, meet the family pig, go for a hike, visit a campsite, and have a campfire with s'more's and refreshments. Thank you to the Eglinger family members for their hospitality. #BlackBearScouts.

Last night the WVSDB Boy Scout Troop was introduced to the game of tennis by local coaches from the county high school. The scouts learned how to grip the tennis racquet and how to do forehand, and backhand strokes. The evening ended with the scouts and the coaches playing King of the Court. #blackbearscouts

During the Spring, WVSDB residents have many opportunities to take part in a variety of leisure and fitness activities in the evenings. This week the residents learn how to make candy, have opportunities to take nature walks, take part in recreational sports in the gym and practice their skills in town by visiting restaurants and stores. #BlackBearFamily2023

July 24-28- Rising to the Challenge-- Students 14 and older will attend the 360 Degree Academy to learn about careers and transition from high school. Younger students will learn about local services like ambulances, fire trucks, and there may even be a helicopter involved!
July 31-August4- Full STEAM Ahead!-- WVSDB is partnering with NASA and the WVU STEAM TAC to provide a week of robots, rockets, and fun!

WVSDB presents: Full STEAM Ahead!
July 31 – August 3, 2023
WVSDB is partnering with NASA and the WVU STEAM Technical Assistance Center to provide students with experiences solving real-world challenges and everyday problems by integrating science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM.) Topics will include: robotics, drones, weather, transportation, and geology. Elementary students will enjoy Lego Robotics while Middle and High schoolers explore Rocketry and Vex Robots.
This week of fun is available free of charge to eligible students grades K-12. Bus transportation is provided from hubs around the state and housing is available in the WVSDB dorm.
This week's activities will include: swimming, stomp rockets, Sphero robots and disc golf.
Students will be taking a field trip to Jaydee's Family Fun Center.
English/Language Arts and Math are built into the daily experience. Enrichment and support in ASL, O&M, and Braille are also provided.

WVSDB presents: Rising to the Challenge-Career Exploration for grades K-8
July 24 - 28, 2023
Students will experience a week focused on career exploration.
Opportunities will include sessions with emergency service personnel such as firemen, police officers, EMTs and nurses. WVSDB will be visited by a ladder fire truck, K-9 police, and a Life Flight helicopter. Students will even be able to learn basic first aid.
This week of fun is available free of charge to eligible students grades K-8. Bus transportation is provided from hubs around the state and housing is available in the WVSDB dorm.
This week's activities will include: swimming, basketball, and games based on preparing for an interview.
Students will be taking a field trip to Tygart Adventure Lake.
English/Language Arts and Math are built into the daily experience. Enrichment and support in ASL, O&M, and Braille are also provided.
