That's a wrap for our Sports Summer Camp! 🏅
It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved!
Our campers dedicated themselves to learning goalball and basketball, both sports taught them new skills and boosted their confidence. 🏀
They also had a wonderful time on a field trip, enjoying a day of fishing that encouraged teamwork and patience. 🐟
These experiences are so important for our campers, providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and create unforgettable memories. ❤️

Our Summer Sports Camp is in full swing! 🏀
Students are thriving in our Basketball and Goalball sessions, specially tailored for DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) and VI (Visually Impaired) participants. This camp is all about staying active, honing new skills, and making unforgettable memories. 🏆

That's a wrap for our Olympic Literacy Camp! 🏅📚
Our students enjoyed learning about the Olympic Games, exploring different countries, and diving into their unique cultures and cuisines. Through engaging stories, we focused on enhancing literacy while broadening their global knowledge. 🌍
A highlight of the camp was our fun field trip to Urban Bounce, where students got to enjoy some active playtime.
To top it all off, Ms. Kathy from Tiffany's Florist joined us and taught our students how to create beautiful floral arrangements. 💐

Meet the WVSDB Staff! 🐻
Dr. Christine Lewis - Director of Student Life 🌟
With 20 years at WVSDB, she leads as the Director of Student Life, overseeing all aspects of residential programming.
Dr. Lewis ensures students are supported academically and learn independent living skills through the state-approved expanded core curriculum. She designs activities to enhance fitness, social, emotional, and personal care skills, fostering independence and career-building skills. 🤩
Dr. Lewis bridges students' families and the school, making WVSDB a true home for residents. 🏠
She holds a BS in Psychology, an M.Ed. in School Guidance & Counseling, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. 🎓
Her goal is to improve students' quality of life and preserve their dignity.
Outside WVSDB, she consults for advocacy groups supporting individuals with disabilities.

Dean of Students/Principal - Melanie Hesse!
We are excited to introduce our dedicated Dean of Students. She has been with WVSDB for over 20 years, holding various key positions. Starting in 2003 at WVSDB Deaf Elementary, she became Director of Special Education in 2016, Director of Outreach in 2019, and now serves as Dean of Students. 📚
With a Bachelor's in Education from Fairmont State College, a Master's in Special Education from Marshall University, and certifications in DHH and VI. 🤟
Fluent in ASL and proficient in Braille, our Dean brings unmatched expertise and passion to our school.
