The West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB) is excited to unveil AC² (Academy for Career Connections), a new initiative aimed at providing Deaf, Hard of Hearing (DHH), and Visually Impaired (VI) students with customized Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways to ensure a successful transition from high school to post-graduation life.
Starting this academic year, students in grades 9-12 can choose from five specialized CTE programs specifically designed to meet the needs of DHH and VI students:
Culinary/Hospitality: Comprehensive training in culinary arts and hospitality management.
Building and Maintenance Operations: Practical experience in construction, repair, and maintenance.
Personal Career Readiness: Development of essential job skills and professional readiness.
Business Enterprise: Insights into business management, operations, and entrepreneurship.
Music: Focused instruction in music theory, performance, and industry skills.
Each program is tailored to address the unique needs of our students, allowing them to select the academy that best aligns with their interests and career goals. This personalized approach is designed to equip students with the specific skills and practical experience they need for a smooth transition into post-graduation life.
The initiative also includes a new partnership with Eastern Community and Technical College, creating a direct pathway for WVSDB graduates to pursue further education. Additionally, partnerships with local businesses will provide students with valuable internships and mentorships, offering real-world experience and professional networking opportunities.
AC² represents a significant advancement in career education, providing targeted support to help DHH and VI students navigate their post-graduation futures with confidence and readiness.
