In a celebration of inclusion and empowerment, the Children's Vision Rehabilitation Program (CVRP) recently hosted the highly anticipated 2024 Braille Challenge and Cane Quest at The West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB). The event brought together students from WVSDB and various corners of the state to showcase their skills and talents in Braille literacy and mobility.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and determination as participants, ranging from different age groups and backgrounds, eagerly took part in the competitions. The Braille Challenge assessed students' proficiency in reading and writing Braille, while the Cane Quest tested their mobility and orientation skills using white canes.
Students from WVSDB showcased their remarkable talents alongside their peers from across the state, demonstrating a high level of competence and confidence in Braille literacy and cane navigation. The competitions not only fostered healthy competition but also encouraged camaraderie and collaboration among participants.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the members of the WVDE TAC: Outreach Center for the Deaf and the Blind for generously volunteering their time to support the event. Their presence and assistance were invaluable, and we are grateful for their unwavering support. We would also like to thank students from Marshall University who graciously volunteered their time and energy to support this meaningful initiative. The Sheetz in Romney generously donated gift cards to all our Braille Challenge and Cane Quest participants.
We thank CVRP for their outstanding efforts in organizing the 2024 Braille Challenge and Cane Quest.
